HTP Episode 167 – Ronald B. Moore

Ronald B. Moore’s work as a Visual Effects Producer was a major influence on Star Trek series such as The Next Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine. That doesn’t even account for his efforts in timeless movies such as Ghostbusters and The Muppet Movie! Today, Ron comes to Hungry Trilobyte to discuss how hard work can get you into film no matter what your background is, and he and I weigh the pros and cons of TNG being mastered on video rather than film.

Though his original website can be found here, Ron tends to keep his internet adventures to his Facebook account, where you’ll see him post about not only his love of Star Trek, but his fondness for pet spiders and his touring with the Enterprise Blues Band.

HTP Episode 152 – Amelia Eichler

Amelia Eichler is a film enthusiast and has a passion for the history of moviemaking and movie distribution. In 2019, she wrote an undergrad thesis on the decline of physical media and the impact it’s had on current and future film scholars. I share a lot of Amelia’s concerns and was eager to have her on the show to discuss the accessibility problems introduced by streaming.

During this chat, we reference the court case United States v. Paramount Pictures, Inc. and the subsequent reversal of that ruling, and the impact of both.

You can follow Amelia on Twitter and Instagram.

HTP Episode 037 – Tonjia Atomic

tonjia

Tonjia Atomic is the director of many cult films, not the least of which being “Manos Returns”. In this episode, she and I discuss how the film came together, and how to create the perfect balance of solid filmmaking craft with a low budget and the most surreal of source materials. Obviously, the sequel to Manos could not be totally serious, but no one wanted it to be outright campy either.

You can follow her on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and her official website, TonjiaAtomic.com. You can watch Manos Retuns on Amazon Prime, and for news on the project, it’s best to check the Facebook feed, but there’s also a Twitter and Instagram as well.

HTP Episode 025 – Michael Mueller

mike

Director of the 2020 indie film, The E-Listers: Life in the Back Lane, Michael Mueller is one of the most promising independent filmmakers today. His movie is based on the lives and career struggles of
“extras” in the movie industry: people who have non-speaking parts in films. Based in Atlanta, GA, Michael took a script by Edward Reid and delivered a real love letter to people with a passion for making film.

Again, please be sure to check out The E-Listers Movie and watch the trailer early. Michael can be followed at his website, M3 Creative.

The two of us spend a lot of time discussing the philosophy of podcasting, the fun of toy collecting as adults, and reviving old properties such as He-Man, G.I. Joe, and Transformers. Rob was recently named the Fusion “Fan of the Month“, and is really passionate about the growth of e-sports.

Rick Sloane is the filmmaker behind such movies as Blood Theatre, Hobgoblins (and likewise the MST3K episode featuring it) , and the Vice Academy series.
