HTP Episode 105 – Marc Morales

3660BD59-99DD-4BAD-A26B-FD2A3C6A85A7

Marc Morales is an independent film maker, a horror fan, and an all-around movie fanatic. In this episode, he and I discuss his movie 521 North Main Street, about to go into production. We also get the chance to talk about horror fandom (an insider perspective for him and an outsider perspective for me). There’s also a really fun side-chat about how film fanatics were able to research movies in the VHS era, compared to the DVD and streaming eras.

You can track Marc’s progress on the website of his production company, High Fivin’ Ants.  His web series It’s Crazy Out There has its own Facebook page, where he frequents.

HTP Episode 100 – Larry Nemecek

8AAAB59F-17A8-4521-9BF9-5406DD8B4A7C

Larry Nemecek has been around the Star Trek fandom in so many capacities… as a writer, editor, podcaster, and even as McCoy himself in Star Trek Continues.  In this episode of Hungry Trilobyte, we’re excited for the premiere of the second season of Lower Decks and amused by the joke about the Tom Paris collector’s plate… which made us remember the Collectible Plate fad of the 80s and 90s.

That spins into a slightly deeper discussion of how fan trends come and go, and how generations of fans sometimes look at the same concepts very differently.

Be sure to tune in to Larry’s podcast Portal 47 .  You can also follow him on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, and find all his info on his official website.

D5EB75D2-C0D0-4E21-B98F-7182435D44E1

Dr. Lisa Funnell is an Associate Professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies department at the University of Oklahoma.  In addition to authoring books on the James Bond mythos, such as ‘Geographies, Genders and Geopolitics of James Bond’ and ‘For His Eyes Only: The Women of James Bond’.  Her work has led her to teach a university class on the changing role of women in the James Bond universe.  The overall goal of the course is to mirror how women’s changing roles in the series mirror their changing roles in real life.  During our chat, I get to pick Dr. Funnell’s brain about what it’s like to balance fandom and scholarly analysis, particularly when a dated perspective might make us uncomfortable.  She also has a great take on the sharp turn the 007 movies took in the 90s.

You can follow Dr. Funnell on her Twitter account as well as Instagram, Facebook,  and  on her Amazon Author page.  Her official website is Lisafunnell.com.
